Night Owl

I work two jobs. When I get home from work I come home and kiss my sleeping three year old child goodnight. Relax on the couch and then go to bed. And then I WAKE UP.

That is not how it is in my house. Rilyn is a night owl. He obviously gets this from his dad because I definately dont like staying up late if I am at home. We know that Rilyn likes to stay up late so we let him stay up until 9. thats his late night. Most kids I know have a bedtime of around 8 or earlier. Not our son. He is still wide awake and raring to go. Usually by 9 he has already been in his bed and is asleep. He likes to watch movies to get him calmed down at night. So he will lay in bed and watch Wall-E or The Backyardigans or whatever else he picks for the night. Fast foward to lately....He has not been wanting to go to sleep until after ten..yep you read right 10 pm. He is 3! I dont know what to do with him. He will say that he is not tired and fight you to stay up. We will put him in bed no tv no nothing and go to check on him and he is in his bed with his back towards the door playing with some random toy. What is wrong with him. I blame J. He stays up until all hours of the night and then when I am at work they are home alone together. I think they do pixie stick shots or something because my kid is always wired. I may stop the whole movie watching thing. I know he will hate it but I bet that once he realizes he cant get his way ( I do spoil him) that he will stop resisting and finally hit the sack.

  1. One of my tutoring cases is a 4 year old that goes to bed at midnight. But, he sleeps in, too.

Anyways.. you probably know this, but do you have a routine established? Start calming down early, bath time, brush teeth, read a couple books and lights out? Maybe shorten or cut out his afternoon nap (if he's taking one) so that he's tired earlier in the evening.

    Good luck!
