Everybody Was KungFu Fighting...

Actually it's Taekwondo and he hasnt actually began fighting in any of the pictures in this post. My 6 year old has been talking and talking and talking about wanting to take Karate for the past two years. Jeff and I never thought he was really serious because, well, he's 6 and he wants to do everything. He is also the master of TV commercials and always thinks we should try the newest "As Seen On TV" product. No thanks Ri, I will pass on the Pajama Jeans.

We decided to take a chance and sign him up for taekwondo to see if he was really interested. We checked out a few centers and some seemed straight out of the karate kid movie (you know, the evil dojo with the bad kids and mean instructor). We were just heading home and happened to see one more center. We decided to stop by and check it out. They had a special going that would let you try it out for free twice and then after that, you could sign up for 5 weeks for just $69 and it included the uniform. We were sold.

We took Rilyn to his first couple of classes and he was SO excited. And what do you know....the kid is actually pretty darn good and LOVES it.  During classes, you get stripes on your belt for knowing your forms (the actual moves for your belt color), pressure points and one-steps (fighting moves).  When you get nine stripes, it means you have completed all requirements for that belt. If you get a black stripe, it means you have gotten permission to test for the next belt rank. Ri has been rocking it out and earned stripes week after week, day after day. Pretty soon he had all of the stripes needed to test for his next color belt.

Take a look at my little taekwondo white belt. He ceases to amaze me and I am so glad that we found something that he not only enjoys, but also excels at!

Rilyn seems to be really good at Taekwondo. His instructors think that he has the ability to be awesome. Only time will tell. He had his first belt rank testing in April, but that's a whole new post. Hi-Yah!
