It's Official: Rilyn Is In Kindergarten

Well, it happened. My little boy grew up and is no longer a preschooler. Rilyn is officially a kindergartner. I can and can't believe it all at the same time. I can still remember when I had him (well sorta...I was really drugged up from my epidural and emergency c-section...but you get the point). He is the best thing that has happened to me thus far and I am so very proud of him. I wanted him to stay little forever but then I realized (by talking to him) that I have to let him grow up. After all, as of this month, he wants to be a pizza delivery man and live down the street from us.

Without further ado, here are a few crappy (yet fabulous) pictures of Rilyns first adventures as a kindergartner. I took pictures on both my Nikon point and shoot and my blackberry. These are obviously from my blackberry...

Getting Busy Already!

Rilyn was so excited to get started. He was a little nervous when he had to line up in the hallway with the other kindergartners. He kept looking to make sure I was still there to walk with him to his classroom. This is when I started to get choked up knowing I was going to have to leave him, but I pulled it together and didn't shed one single tear. He found his locker with no problems and even went straight to his desk with no problems. I then made him get up and give me a big hug and kiss before I left. He has NO attachment issues whatsoever and that makes me sad and happy at the same time.

I was so excited to pick him up I practically ran out of work. When I got there he ran to me yelling "Mama" and gave me a big hug. You could tell that he had an amazing day. He immediately starting pulling our "parents" folder out of his backpack and telling me that it has to come back tomorrow. I laughed and said that we would look at it when we got home. That would be our daily routine....get home, open your bag, show us what you did, we will fill out anything if needed and then enjoy the rest of our night.

I have a feeling Rilyn has already become a typical boy.  Conversations? Forget about it...they don't exist. I was so excited to see what he did on his first day, what it was like, what he ate...etc. I asked him in the car and all I got back was " Our teacher told us to remember what we did today so we could tell our parents but....I forgot". Forgot? FORGOT?! Rilyn doesn't forget...anything. He has the memory of I don't know what, but he doesn't forget. He remembers stuff from years ago. So I KNEW he didn't forget. That's his way of saying..."mom, dad, I really don't want to talk about it right now". It was like pulling teeth to get all the details out of him. But we successfully did.

I am so happy that he is so happy. He did leave me with this one little tidbit about his opinion on kindergarten. Driving home he told me that " Daycare is lame...kindergarten is way better." All I could do was laugh...Jeff and I knew he would be bored with one more year of preschool when he didn't qualify for early entry into kindergarten last year. This just proves our point.

Oh and by the way...I think that if Rilyn sticks with the "pizza man" dream. School will help him be the best pizza man there ever was. He already said that he would go in the peoples houses "and help them eat their pizza." ...who wouldn't want that?
